Established in 1992, the Minuteman Commuter Trail is a paved two-lane path that follows an old
rail trail. Eleven (11) miles long, it connects the communities of Cambridge, Arlington, Lexington
and Bedford. This trail also leads to bike paths around Fresh Pond, into Davis Square in Somer-
ville and Harvard Square in Cambridge. From Harvard Square, paths on either side of the Charles
River go into downtown Boston.

Arlington Center is a great place to grab something to drink, have lunch and pick up whatever
you need for the rest of the way. It also has some very interesting sights like the time capsule
dedicated in April 2001.

The terrain along the trail varies from tree-lined wooded or residential areas, to ponds and
meadows where boardwalks guide you through wetlands off the main trail, to town centers like
Arlington and Depot Village in Lexington.

The bikeway is also the site of many famous battles during the Revolutionary War, as seen here
at the Battle at The Foot of the Rocks.

BEDFORD MASSACHUSETTS

The trail in Bedford passes through farms, woods and wetlands bordering the trail, and like the
entire 11-mile stretch, is paved and very flat, making for an easy ride.
